Sally Benson is the Precourt Family Professor in the Department of Energy Resources Engineering in the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences. She is also a senior fellow at the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment, and her research focuses on technologies and pathways to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. She previously took a leave from Stanford to serve as the Energy Division Director and Chief Strategist for the Energy Transition at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (2021-23). She received her PhD in materials science and mineral engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
